Curragh conveyor wins Engineering Excellence award
Laing O'Rourke has won another major award for its work in delivering the world's longest single flight conveyor.
The Curragh North Conveyor project won the Queensland Engineering Excellence Products and Manufacturing Facilities category at the awards ceremony on Friday October 17.
The Curragh North Coal Conveyor, which at 20.02 kilometres is the longest single flight conveyor in the world, has already won a number of awards including the 2007 Bulk Handling Facility of the Year.
Project Manager Sean Galligan said the Engineers Australia award was in recognition of the extraordinary geographic and technical challenges the team faced in delivering the conveyor for client Wesfarmers.
Sean, who attended the awards ceremony, thanked all those involved in the delivery of the project as well as Veronica Simeoni who put together the award submission.
The project is now in the running for the national award which will be announced in November.
